About the Fred Milne Turf Field
The Artificial Turf Playing Field at Fred Milne Park is recognized as a priority for the CRD region. It is considered regional in scope given that it will serve the entire CRD region. It will serve as a hub for users of all ages and abilities to converge and develop skills and celebrate being active.
Without this facility, Sooke and visiting sports teams from across the region and the province endure frequent cancellations of games and practices for approximately three months each year due to rained-soaked fields. .
By replacing one of the grass fields with a turf field, residents and visitors will have regular access to a safe, well drained facility. The field will be designed to accommodate soccer, baseball, football, rugby, field lacrosse, and other sports and activities.
The Fred Milne Turf Field is projected to cost $1.5 million. The City of Sooke and CRD have already contributed a combined $1 Million. We are seeking to raise $500,000 through in kind material and labour donations, advertising sales and owning your own square foot of the new Turf Field.
